Yoshiharu Tsuge's 'Il giovane Yoshio' released by Canicola Edizioni
Italian publisher Canicola Edizioni releases 'Il giovane Yoshio', the first of three volumes collecting autobiographical works by pioneering gekiga manga artist Yoshiharu Tsuge (born 1937 in Katsushika). The book includes six stories written between the 1970s and 1980s, depicting Tsuge's difficult childhood marked by family crises, abuse, and economic hardship, set against postwar Japan's social conditions. Following the success of 'L'uomo senza talento', this volume is part of Canicola's plan to publish Tsuge's entire oeuvre in Italy and the Western world. Editor Edo Chieregato describes Tsuge as a major figure in comics, embodying an attitude toward existence and art that resonates with the publisher. The book (224 pages, €19, ISBN 9788899524340) launches May 10, 2018, with subsequent volumes planned for adult stories and dreamlike narratives.
