Yona Friedman's Montagne de Venise to float through Venice lagoon
Montagne de Venise, a mobile architectural installation exceeding seven meters in height, will traverse the Venice lagoon from September 28 to October 1, 2016. Created by Yona Friedman and Jean-Baptiste Decavèle, this initiative is curated by Chiara Bertola and Giuliano Sergio, with promotion from Zerynthia Associazione per l’Arte Contemporanea and collaboration with Fondazione Querini Stampalia, IUAV, and others. The structure, constructed from chestnut barrel hoops on a floating pontoon, will journey from the Arsenale to various locations including the Giardini della Biennale and Bacino di San Marco. This marks the third architectural project by Friedman and Decavèle in Italy, following Vigne Museum and No Man’s Land. A workshop running from September 22 to October 1 will engage students from multiple institutions. The concluding event on October 1 at the Arsenale will feature performances in art, music, and theater. NOW – New Operation Wave, backed by Zerynthia, will document the endeavor through social media and NOW Radio on RAMlive, with the project under the patronage of the Comune di Venezia.
