Yona Friedman's Mobile Exhibition Unfolds Utopian Architecture Across Hauts-de-France
An exhibition honoring architect Yona Friedman (1923-2020) is presently on display in the Hauts-de-France area, beginning at the Frac Grand Large in Dunkerque until December 30, 2021. Entitled "L'Exposition Mobile," it will later travel to the Quadrilatère in Beauvais, Frac Picardie, and Idem+arts in Maubeuge. This showcase highlights Friedman's innovative ideas, such as "mobile architecture" and the "Spatial City," which originated in 1959. Having relocated to Paris in the 1950s, Friedman championed participatory urbanism. His archive, partly housed at CNEAI, plays a crucial role in the exhibition. The Frac Grand Large includes a unicorn drawing that alludes to a larger piece at Lake Vassivière. Despite a rich career, few of his designs were realized, including a college in Angers, with the exhibition focusing on his philosophical insights into sustainable urban discussions.
