Yokohama Triennale 2024 reveals 68 artists exploring resilience through 'Wild Grass' theme

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

The 8th Yokohama Triennale will feature 68 artists and collectives from March 15 to June 9, 2024. Titled 'Wild Grass: Our Lives', the exhibition draws inspiration from Chinese writer Lu Xun to examine fragile yet resilient lived experiences. Among the participants, 21 will create new commissioned works. Norwegian Sámi artist Joar Nango will address climate change and resource circulation by redesigning the main venue's façade. South African artist Lungiswa Gqunta will present a barbed wire sculpture confronting patriarchal and colonial inequalities. Ukrainian collective The Open Group will show work based on interviews with refugees in Lviv. Japanese collective SIDE CORE will present a video survey of Japanese street culture history. The diverse lineup includes artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Kosovo, India, Fiji, and many other regions. Participants range from established figures like Käthe Kollwitz and Jeremy Deller to emerging voices. The exhibition explores themes of vulnerability and strength across global contexts.
