Yoko Ono to unveil new DREAM edition at Marostica chess event

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

Yoko Ono, recipient of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 2009 Venice Biennale, will present a new edition of her work DREAM during the biennial living chess game in Marostica, scheduled for September 9–11. The piece, a form of advertising art, will be unveiled as a surprise intervention within the traditional reenactment of the story of Rinaldo d'Angarano and Vieri da Vallonara. DREAM, originally conceived as a tribute to Tokyo, is a manifesto word promoting hope from a starting point of difficulty. It was previously used in an installation across many Italian cities, with thousands of posters displaying the word. The selection of Marostica is tied to collector Luigi Bonotto, who has hosted Fluxus artists including Ono in the town. Chess is a recurring theme in Ono's work and the Fluxus movement.
