Yoko Ono's 'Music of the Mind' at The Broad Surveys Her Pioneering Career
The Broad in Los Angeles is currently featuring 'Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind,' which is her first solo museum exhibition in Southern California, running until October 11, 2026. The showcase highlights Ono's early work in conceptual art, music, film, and activism, including engaging installations like Painting to Hammer a Nail and Add Colour (Refugee Boat). Visitors can share their wishes by writing them on paper and hanging them on olive trees in the plaza. A video of her 1964 performance, Cut Piece, directed by the Maysles brothers, is also part of the exhibit. Seven billboards across Los Angeles display messages like THINK PEACE. Upcoming performances of Cut Piece and a concert featuring interpretations of Ono's music by various artists will take place in August. Curator Sarah Loyer and studio director Connor Monahan wish to reposition Ono’s legacy, moving beyond her association with The Beatles to highlight her significant role in art.
