Yohji Yamamoto Retrospective Opens at 10 Corso Como in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-26

A rare retrospective of Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, titled "Yohji Yamamoto. Letter to the future," opens at 10 Corso Como in Milan from May 16 to July 31, 2024. Curated by Alessio de’Navasques, a professor of Fashion Archives at Sapienza University of Rome, the exhibition features 25 archival pieces from the Yohji Yamamoto Collection, spanning from 1986 to 2024. This is the first major show dedicated to Yamamoto in 13 years, since his retrospective at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The display presents garments without scenographic artifice, on tailor's busts, mixing past and present collections to highlight Yamamoto's radical deconstruction of archetypes. Key pieces include a faux-cul red silk coat from the Winter 1986/87 collection, three-dimensional robe manteau from Winter 2023/24, and a dress from the Spring 1999 performance show. De’Navasques notes that Yamamoto's message is about the body acting on the garment, embracing imperfect and inclusive forms, a timely reflection in an era of social media scrutiny. The exhibition is hosted at the recently renovated concept store 10 Corso Como.
