Yoan Capote's 'Ruido blanco' Opens at Galleria Continua for 35th Anniversary
For its 35th anniversary, Galleria Continua in San Gimignano inaugurated solo exhibitions by four historic artists, including Cuban artist Yoan Capote (born 1977 in Pinar del Río). Capote's show 'Ruido blanco' is hosted in the former cinema-theater space and addresses themes of resignation, demotivation, numbness, social isolation, and political stagnation in Cuba. The exhibition features both new works and pieces from known series such as 'Litoral' (2025), 'Islas', and 'Pacificacion', which incorporate symbolic materials like stones from Cuban coasts, fishing hooks, and metal fragments. In the main hall, two works engage with the vast space: a mahogany kneeler inlaid with stones and bronze opens onto a rocky coastal landscape, while behind the stage a video emphasizes collective participation against individualism. The series 'Sentimientos Encontrados' uses electrocardiograms of Cuban compatriots to form deaf landscapes. Capote first collaborated with Galleria Continua at Les Moulins in 2017, and has since exhibited in Havana (2018, 2020), San Gimignano (2019), Beijing (2021), and Paris (2021, 2024). His work was shown at the Cuban Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011 and at the 2022 Biennale of Sydney. The other three artists presented are Michelangelo Pistoletto, Alicja Kwade, and Chen Zhen.
