Ylenia Deriu's Jewelry Exhibition at Trieste Natural History Museum

The Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Trieste hosts 'Elitre. Alterazioni di scala nelle urgenze dell’Antropocene,' a solo exhibition of jewelry by Ylenia Deriu, curated by Andrea Colla and produced in partnership with Rave, an association founded by Isabella and Tiziana Pers. The show features fifteen brooches inspired by endangered beetle species, focusing on the anatomical detail of the elytra. Each piece is displayed alongside the corresponding insect specimen and a card explaining both the insect and the crafting technique. Materials range from brass to coal, plaster to gold, glass to hard stones, resin to copper. The exhibition highlights the drastic decline of insect populations—over 70% in some European countries—amid broader extinction crises. Catalog texts by Colla and Nico Covre emphasize the transformation of insect specimens into sculptures and the value of contamination between art and contemporary issues.
