Yinka Shonibare Curates 'Talisman in the Age of Difference' at Stephen Friedman Gallery

Yinka Shonibare MBE, the British-Nigerian artist known for his politically charged installations using batik fabrics, has curated an exhibition at Stephen Friedman Gallery in London titled 'Talisman in the Age of Difference.' The show explores themes of magic and beauty through works by African and diaspora artists, as well as those with an empathic connection to African resistance. Spanning from the early 20th century to the present, the exhibition features drawings, paintings, and sculptures that challenge Western art norms and address Black identity. Notable artists include Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, Ghada Amer, Marlene Dumas, David Hammons, Kendell Geers, Isaac Julien, and the Chapman brothers. Shonibare approaches curation as an artistic act, selecting provocative works with subversive messages. The exhibition runs until July 21, 2018.
