Yi Bridal Dress Exhibition at London Craft Week 2026
From 12 to 17 May 2026, Fitzrovia Gallery will host "Brides of the Mountains: Yi Wedding Craft Heritage in China" during London Craft Week 2026. This exhibition showcases Yi bridal attire, silver jewelry, and ceremonial items from Southwest China, with an emphasis on the customs of Liangshan and Yunnan. Curated by Chelsea Su, the event is a collaboration between Yi Crafts, Moonland Nuosu, and Liuran. It is divided into three sections: Nuosu Yi bridal customs from Liangshan, the various Yi subgroups of Yunnan, and a concluding chapter named Home. Wedding gowns are crafted over several years by mothers, grandmothers, and elder women, preserving traditional knowledge and safeguarding heritage. The exhibition will also feature guided tours and embroidery workshops.
