Yellow: A Nonprofit Painting Research Space in Varese

institutional · 2026-05-04

Founded in 2014 in Varese by artist Vera Portatadino, Yellow is a nonprofit research initiative dedicated to the exploration of painting. Co-directed by Portatadino along with Luca De Angelis, Lucia Veronesi, Marco Salvetti, and Lorenzo Di Lucido, it transitioned from an artist-run space into a project-oriented venture. Yellow examines painting trends in Italy through various exhibitions, presentations, and publications. Since its inception, it has organized 31 exhibitions featuring 75 artists and released two bilingual volumes, Yellow #1 and Yellow #2, with a third volume expected in December 2019. The website yellowyellow.org offers interviews and other content, while annual fundraising efforts include the sale of donated artworks. International exchanges and drawing projects will be introduced starting in 2019.
