Yee I-Lann Wins Inaugural ANTEPRIMA x CHAT Textile Art Prize
The inaugural ANTEPRIMA x CHAT Contemporary Textile Art Prize has been awarded to artist Yee I-Lann and weavers Roziah Binti Jalalid and Julitah Kulinting, who received HKD 300,000 (£30,000) for their exploration of social issues. This prize, organized by the Centre for Heritage Arts and Textile (CHAT) in Hong Kong, highlights the significance of traditional craftsmanship within modern textile art. Yee I-Lann, hailing from Malaysia, delves into themes of colonial history and Southeast Asian relations. Roziah, a Bajau Tempatan weaver and leader of WAPO, and Julitah, a retired bamboo weaving educator, were among eight finalists chosen by an international jury. An exhibition showcasing all finalists will be open until 23 February 2025, including an Audience Prize.
