Yeast: Visual Storytelling Project Celebrates Puglia's Human Biodiversity

Yeast, a visual storytelling project named after the English word for lievito, explores Puglia's human biodiversity through photography and video. The project features 53 individuals—farmers, bakers, cheesemakers, winemakers, and hospitality workers—who embody creativity and connection to the land. Photographers Flavio&Frank Sabato and videographer Gabriele Surdo capture portraits and video pills that highlight the region's agricultural and anthropological landscape, with enogastronomy as a unifying thread. The project aims to present a multifaceted image of Puglia beyond mainstream tourism, emphasizing ethics, nature, and generational tradition. Participants include Paolo Belloni of Giardini di Pomona in Cisternino, Roberta De Lia and Vito Dicecca revolutionizing cheese, Giuseppe Savino of Vazap, chef Peppe Zullo, baker Antonio Cera, food performer Don Pasta, cooperative Karadrà, and oyster farmer Vincenzo Falco. The website releases two new stories weekly, with plans for a photo book, themed events, and dedicated spaces in Puglia's airports.
