Yayoi Kusama's 'In Infinity' Exhibition Opens at Moderna Museet Stockholm

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Moderna Museet in Stockholm has inaugurated 'In Infinity', a comprehensive exhibition dedicated to Yayoi Kusama (born 1929 in Matsumoto, Japan). The show spans her entire career from the 1950s to the present, featuring paintings, drawings, sculptures, environmental installations, and documentary material on her performances. Special emphasis is placed on works from the 1980s, created after her return to Japan. The museum released a short video that recounts the artist's life, including her early obsession with painting in Japan, her move to America, and her ongoing daily life in a psychiatric institution since the 1970s when she was diagnosed with a compulsive disorder. Kusama's work is characterized by repetitive dots, which she describes as infinite. The exhibition includes works such as 'Kusama with Pumpkin' (2010). Kusama is represented by Ota Fine Arts (Tokyo/Singapore), Victoria Miro Gallery (London), and David Zwirner (New York).
