Yayoi Kusama Retrospective at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

exhibition · 2026-07-26

The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam will host a major retrospective of Yayoi Kusama from September 11, 2026 to January 17, 2027. Spanning over seventy years of her career, the exhibition covers painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, performance, fashion, and literature. It traces her journey from early works in Matsumoto, Japan, to her transformative years in New York, and recent creations in Tokyo. Alongside iconic pieces, the show features historical works never before exhibited in Europe and new site-specific installations. The retrospective is the final stop of an international collaboration with the Fondation Beyeler in Basel (October 12, 2025 – January 25, 2026) and the Museum Ludwig in Cologne (March 14, 2026 – August 2, 2026). Stedelijk director Rein Wolfs noted that Kusama continues to captivate audiences across generations with her hypnotic creations.
