Yayoi Kusama Designs Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2012 Bottle

artist · 2026-04-27

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has designed the packaging for Veuve Clicquot's La Grande Dame 2012 champagne. The limited edition features a black transparent bottle with yellow polka dots on the label, and a sculptural object titled "My Heart That Blooms in The Darkness of The Night" produced in 100 copies, requiring 250 hours of work. The design incorporates the house's anchor symbol and an opulent flower representing life, love, and peace. This collaboration continues a relationship that began in 2006 when Kusama covered a portrait of Madame Clicquot with red polka dots for a Tokyo auction. The project pays homage to Madame Clicquot (Nicole Barbe Clicquot Ponsardin), who took over the family business in 1805 at age 27, created the first vintage champagne in 1810, shipped 10,550 bottles to Russia in 1814, invented the riddling table in 1816, and formulated rosé by blending red wines from Bouzy.
