Yard Press Launches Music Series with Telescopes and Matteo Nasini
Yard Press, a Rome-based independent publisher focused on visual culture and underground movements, has launched a music series. Founded four years ago by Giandomenico Carpentieri and Achille Filipponi, the press has always used music as a binding element for its editorial projects. The series, not branded as Yard Press Records, reflects the open, free nature of the Yard space. Curator Carpentieri, a graphic designer and former musician, emphasizes that the project avoids the marketing constraints of a typical record label, fostering an exchange of ideas between artist and publisher. The first release, in November 2017, was Stone Tape by The Telescopes, a concept album inspired by the Stone Tape Theory proposed by archaeologist Thomas Charles Lethbridge in 1961. The album features six songs written, produced, arranged, and performed by Stephen Lawrie, founder of the band. The second release, Sparkling Matter by Matteo Nasini, came out in July 2018, translating brain activity during sleep into sound. Both releases include impeccable artwork, reflecting Yard's graphic editorial line. Carpentieri announces four new records by next summer.
