Yansu Wang's Pop-Up Collages Made from Fines and Receipts at Numero 51, Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-26

On January 28, 2025, coinciding with Chinese New Year, Galleria Numero 51 in Milan opened a solo exhibition of Chinese-born artist Yansu Wang, featuring her unique pop-up collages created from everyday ephemera like receipts, candy wrappers, and even traffic fines. Wang, who moved to Italy in 2015, began making these junk journals as a means of communication before mastering Italian. The show includes a series on the Seven Deadly Sins, built from advertising materials and découpage paper. After closing at the gallery, the exhibition will relocate to the Pineider boutique on Via Manzoni, accompanied by public workshops. The practice echoes the 19th-century Chinese Bapo (Eight Fragments) technique, recently highlighted at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
