Yann Nguema's Kinetic Sculpture 'Gravity' at PRISM Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Digital artist Yann Nguema's kinetic installation 'Gravity' is currently on view at Les Champs Libres in Rennes as part of the exhibition PRISM, running until March 31, 2024. Originally conceived for the Collégiale Saint-Martin in Angers, the work uses silk sheets, wind, lights, and music to evoke a childhood game of blowing a tissue into the air. The sculpture consists of large, fine silk drapes that dance in the air propelled by fans at the base. Inspired by the artistic work of Daniel Wurtzel, it projects various images onto the white fabric, from geometric patterns resembling constellations to floral corollas. An enveloping soundscape combines musical motifs, technological trills, and string chords that seem to sync with brain rhythms. Visitors can walk under or around the floating cloths, choosing to be enveloped by the work or observe from a distance. The installation aims to induce a contemplative, meditative state, similar to other contemporary works like Brian Eno and Jiří Příhoda's 'Nave'. The effect is described as ASMR, providing a sense of pleasure to the brain. In times of mental stress and information overload, 'Gravity' offers a creative and therapeutic artistic experience.
