Yanira Castro's Paradis Performance Debuts at Brooklyn Botanic Garden
In a historic first, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden will feature performances tailored to its unique landscape. From June 2-4, director and choreographer Yanira Castro, alongside her interdisciplinary arts group a canary torsi, will showcase the three-part work Paradis, with a backup date of June 5 in case of rain. The performances are set in two distinct areas of the garden: the Desert House located in the Steinhardt Conservatory and the Cherry Esplanade. Drawing inspiration from the last segment of Jean-Luc Godard's 2004 film Notre Musique, Paradis invites audience interaction, influencing sound, light, and movement. Live piano by Michael Daupinais and a solo dance by Peter Schmitz will enhance the experience. Tickets are available for $20, with limited seating at dancetheaterworkshop.org or by calling 212.924.0077. This event represents a notable shift in the garden's programming, merging performance art with its natural environment.
