Yamini Sujan: Storytelling Through Animation and Illustration

Yamini Sujan, an aspiring animator and illustrator studying at the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, creates works that blend real-life experiences with fictional elements. Her pilot classroom projects include the 2D animations 'Ribbon' and 'Whilom'. 'Ribbon', an individual project guided by Suman Chakraborthy, addresses eve teasing and the insecurities women face, drawing from personal and shared experiences. It was selected for the Bangalore International Short Film Festival. 'Whilom', a group project from the 4th semester guided by Upamanyu Bhattacharyya, marked her first foray into filmmaking. Sujan's style incorporates dark shades, vibrant colors, and watercolor textures, rooted in her early use of traditional mediums. She is currently working on a children's book sponsored by Bhattacharyya and Swati Shelhar, and has contributed background art to Bhattacharyya and Kalp's film 'Wade'. She cites influences from studios like Ghost Animation, Vaibhav Studios, Eeksaurous, Eunoians, and Kokkaachi. Sujan aims to create illustrations for books, concept art, and storyboarding, and plans to study literature, sociology, and psychology to enhance her storytelling.
