Yahon Chang's Berlin Painting Performance Merges Ink, Music and Ancient Chinese Aesthetics

artist · 2026-04-20

On April 29, 2023, from 6–7pm, Yahon Chang, a Taiwanese artist born in 1948, will showcase a solo painting performance called Floating Poetry, Meandering Mindscape at St. Elisabeth-Kirche in Berlin. This event, which includes a book signing, is curated by Manu Park and aligns with Berlin Gallery Weekend. Chang's artistic journey has transitioned from smaller canvases to grand public performances, beginning with a 2011 show at Busan Museum of Art. His work delves into themes of body, mind, and spirituality through large-scale ink performances, accompanied by music from Isang Yun (1917-1995). A monograph titled Yahon Chang: Painting as Performance has been released, and he is set to display ceramic pieces in September.
