Yael Martínez Wins Inaugural $50,000 Edelman Impact Award in Photography at MFAH

Yael Martínez has been named the first recipient of the Edelman Impact Award in Photography, a new annual prize established at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The award, created by benefactor Cathy Edelman, provides an unrestricted $50,000 cash prize to support the work of an emerging or mid-career photographer. Selection is made by a jury of photography experts who evaluate a commitment to social issues and visual storytelling. Martínez and the MFAH curatorial team will collaborate to choose works from his practice for acquisition into the museum's permanent collection. Edelman expressed enthusiasm for this new form of support after 35 years of working with photographers. The award aims to recognize and advance photographic work that engages with societal concerns.
