Yael Grunseit's Short Film Selected for Tribeca Film Festival
Australian filmmaker Yael Grunseit's short film 'Daddy's Little Meatball' has been selected for the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Grunseit, who moved to New York in 2022 to pursue an MFA in film at Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, wrote and directed the film. The story follows Australians visiting New York from an outsider perspective, inspired by Grunseit's own experience as a newcomer to the city. The film was cast with Madeline Sunshine and Benjamin Howes as leads, with casting direction by Manuela Romero. Grunseit previously studied creative writing in Sydney and took a screenwriting course at AFTRS. She cites scripts for 'Adaptation,' 'No Country for Old Men,' and 'Juno' as foundational influences. The film was workshopped in a thesis class at Feirstein. Grunseit submitted the film to Tribeca in October 2024 and received acceptance without further communication. She describes the selection as a 'homecoming' for the New York-set film.
