Yabu Pushelberg's Amagansett Beach House Designed Around Protected Dunes

George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, founders of Yabu Pushelberg design studio, own a beachfront house in Amagansett, East Hampton, completed in June 2012. They discovered the property by chance while reading The Sunday Times on a flight from London. The house is designed around protected sand dunes, with a layout borrowed from yacht design, split across three levels. The main living space on the second level features floor-to-ceiling glass walls that slide completely out of sight, engineered without a corner column by Frederick Stelle. The rooftop level includes Tribù pieces and a hot tub. The interiors feature pieces from Yabu Pushelberg's collaboration with Belgian outdoor company Tribù, including the 'Nodi' loungers and armchairs and the newer Elio collection. Materials are soft and neutral to act as a calm backdrop. The designers cut their dining table and chairs down by three inches to encourage lingering. The house serves as an escape from Toronto and New York, emphasizing durability, purpose, functionality, and soulful minimalism.
