Xiaoyu Weng Wins Bonaldi Prize, Curates 'Soft Crash' at GAMeC

award · 2026-05-05

Xiaoyu Weng, who serves as the associate curator of Chinese art at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, has been awarded the eighth Lorenzo Bonaldi Prize for Art – EnterPrize. This recognition was revealed at Spazio Zero in GAMeC, Bergamo, where her exhibition 'Soft Crash' will be on display until July 24. Before this, Weng managed Asian programs at the Kadist Art Foundation in Paris and San Francisco, initiating the Kadist Curatorial Collaboration and overseeing artist residencies alongside a contemporary Asian art collection. Nominated by Leeza Ahmady, director of Asia Contemporary Art Week (ACAW), the exhibition showcases works from four artists and one collective, including Tsang Kin-Wah's 'Soft Crash' (2016), which shares its name with the exhibition. Weng draws inspiration from J.G. Ballard's 'The Atrocity Exhibition' (1970) and 'Crash' (1973) to examine humanity's changing dynamics with technology, such as AI and data privacy. She is also developing a Guggenheim project focused on new commissions.
