Xavier Veilhan's monumental mobile installation at La Rinascente in Rome

exhibition · 2026-05-04

French artist Xavier Veilhan has created a monumental site-specific installation titled "Mobile (Roma)" at La Rinascente department store in Rome. The work, inspired by Alexander Calder, consists of freely moving spheres and discs suspended from the sixth to the first floor, reaching a total height of 21 meters. The elements interact with air currents and the movement of visitors, constantly changing configuration. The installation is on view throughout 2019 at the flagship store on Via del Tritone, which also houses ancient remains of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct from 19 BC. La Rinascente has a history of collaborating with visual artists and designers, including Marcello Dudovich, Bruno Munari, Max Huber, and more recently Anthony Ausgang, Moritz Waldemeier, and Martino Gamper.
