Xavier Miserachs Photography Biennial opens in Palafrugell with Dorothea Lange, Sergio Larrain

The 14th edition of the Biennal de Fotografia Xavier Miserachs runs from August 2 to October 18 in Palafrugell, Spain. Eleven exhibitions across the city feature historic photographers Dorothea Lange, Sergio Larrain, and Gabriel Cualladó alongside contemporary artists Carles Palacio, Wayra Ficapal, and Vero Mora Noya. A Lange exhibition produced by the Biennial draws from the Library of Congress Farm Security Administration collection. Larrain's first Catalan retrospective highlights his poetic documentary style. Cualladó's domestic scenes reflect mid-20th-century Spanish photography. Other projects include a dialogue between Txema Salvans and writer Josep Pla, recovery of the Casanovas family archive documenting Palafrugell's history, and works addressing fishing decline on the Costa Brava, the Ebro delta's degradation, and women caregivers. A centenary exhibition for Modest Cuixart features three local photographers, while Banc Sabadell's photojournalism collection covers climate migration and social tensions. The program includes film screenings, conferences, and guided tours.
