Xavier Antin's 'Offshore' at Galerie Crèvecœur Explores Print Accidents

exhibition · 2026-04-24

From March 22 to May 10, 2014, Galerie Crèvecœur hosts Xavier Antin's second solo exhibition, 'Offshore.' As a graphic designer, Antin investigates subtle flaws in image reproduction, transforming them into systematic elements. The first room showcases large black-and-white gradient prints with striations, hanging from metal structures that resemble display boards. In the subsequent space, a lightbox photograph of a similar apparatus alludes to Jeff Wall's 'Picture for Women,' notably devoid of human figures. On the floor, plaster casts of ink cartridges stained with color are displayed. This exhibition weaves a web of signs, emphasizing 'discourse shifters' and suggesting that machine malfunctions prompt a resurgence of fiction, underlining the powerful presence of the neutral.
