X-rays of Domestic Violence Victims at Milan Hospital Exhibition
The exhibition 'L'invisibilità non è un superpotere' (Invisibility Is Not a Superpower) at Ospedale Santi Paolo e Carlo in Milan displays X-rays of fractured pelvises, broken tibias, detached collarbones, and damaged phalanges from women who suffered domestic violence. Alongside the medical images, photographer Marzia Bianchi presents works interpreting testimonies from victims. The show aims to break the silence around gender-based violence, which often remains hidden within homes, perpetrated by husbands, partners, or relatives. Maria Grazia Vantadori, surgeon and head of the hospital's Doona Listening and Rescue Center (CASD), explains that many women arriving at the ER do not immediately report violence due to Procne Syndrome, but their injuries speak for themselves. The exhibition is supported by Fondazione Pangea Onlus and Reama network, emphasizing the need for coordinated societal efforts to combat violence and help victims emerge from invisibility. The show runs until December 8, 2019, at Via Antonio di Rudinì, 8, Milan.
