Wunderkammern Opens New Rome Space with Shepard Fairey Show

Wunderkammern, a gallery founded in 2008 in Rome's Tor Pignattara district, has opened a new venue at Via Giulia 180, inaugurated with 'Strategies for a revolution,' a solo exhibition dedicated to the dissident art of Shepard Fairey (OBEY). The show features works spanning collage, silkscreen on wood and aluminum, HPMs on paper, and vinyl covers. The new space, designed by Donato Bramante in 1518 for Pope Julius II, is a long, narrow gallery that joins a cluster of nearby galleries including White Noise, Unosunove, and Dorothy Circus. Wunderkammern's first Milan location opened in 2016 on Via Nerino. The gallery has produced over 60 exhibitions and commissioned murals by artists such as Invader, Agostino Iacurci, Tellas, Alexey Luka, MP5, and Blek Le Rat. Director Giuseppe Pizzuto stated that Rome remains a strategic location with a loyal following, and that the pandemic delayed the project but reinforced their belief in art's importance. Future programming includes projects with JonOne, Doze Green, and Italian underground artists like Masito, Esa, and Hogre. The gallery is exploring VR and digital tools but remains committed to traditional, tactile exhibitions. The Tor Pignattara space remains active for workshops and events.
