Wulf Architekten's Glass House in Reutlingen: A Cast-Glass Skin for a Medieval Site

Wulf Architekten finalized the Glass House in 2025 for Museum Oberamteistraße in Reutlingen, Germany. This innovative building showcases a cast-glass exterior that modernizes traditional pitched-roof designs. It is part of a broader initiative to restore medieval structures, expected to be finished by 2028, after the firm secured victory in a design competition in 2017. Erected on the site of the former Stone House (1972), the building features cast-glass shingles that mimic beaver-tail tiles. In partnership with La Rochère, the architects developed a shingle system that can be replaced, supported by a timber framework. Inside, the structure incorporates parametrically designed CLT trusses made from Silver Fir, created with str.ucture, and adheres to Cradle to Cradle principles, with input from Bäuerle Landschaftsarchitektur + Stadtplanung and Demirag Architekten.
