Wuhan Resort with Floating Rooms and Pumpkin Cottages Opens on Houguan Lake

architecture-design · 2026-06-12

Wuhan Urban Construction Kaiyuan Senbo Resort, the first suburban resort in Central China, has opened on the North Shore of Wuhan, offering floating rooms on Houguan Lake. Designed by global architecture firm DAHLIN, founded in 1976 by Doug Dahlin and originally based in Northern California, the resort spans 6.2 acres and features six room types: Forest Treehouses, Pumpkin Cottages, Stargazing Cabins, Waterfront Boat Houses, and others. The design motif draws on mountains, water, and lotus flowers, using materials like fish-scale wood shingles and red cedar cladding to blend with the landscape. The resort aims to honor Wuhan's local culture, known as the 'River City' and 'City of a Hundred Lakes.' DAHLIN has expanded its presence across California, Washington, and China.
