festival-fair · 2026-04-20

At Art Basel in Basel 2024, the Tina Keng Gallery will showcase Wu Tien-Chang's video installation, 'Farewell, Spring and Autumn Pavilions' (2015). This work, initially unveiled at the Taiwan Pavilion during the 2015 Venice Biennale, features a main character in a latex mask performing to the music of Taiwanese artist Wen Hsia. Born in Changhua, Taiwan, in 1956, Wu delves into Taiwan's sociopolitical narrative through his multimedia creations. The installation includes nostalgic references, such as Wen Hsia's 'Goodbye Harbour,' which alludes to Japan's occupation of Taiwan. The character evolves from military history into a spectral figure. Wu has displayed his art globally, including at the Kochi–Muziris Biennale (2016) and in solo exhibitions in New York (2010) and Madrid (2017). He resides in Taipei.
