Wu Ming 2 and Fare Ala's Colonial Memory Walk for Manifesta 12 in Palermo
As part of Manifesta 12, the duo Wu Ming 2 (Giovanni Cattabriga) and Fare Ala launched 'Viva Manilicchi!' at Teatro Garibaldi in Palermo. This initiative features a video, a fanzine, and a city map that explore colonial histories and social tensions, drawing inspiration from the 1896 anarchist demonstration 'Viva Menilicchi!' following Italy's loss at the Battle of Adwa. The project delves into Italy's colonial history as well as contemporary issues such as racism and migration. On October 20, 2018, a 16 km urban performance walk will highlight significant locations, with participation from groups including Arci Porco Rosso and Mediterranea. The walk concludes at Palazzo Chiaramonte-Steri, featuring a reading by Wu Ming and a concert by Jerusa Barros and GliArchiEnsemble, alongside virtual plaques with QR codes unveiling concealed narratives.
