Wu Chi-Yu and Transgressive Group Show Open in Taipei Amid Pandemic Delays

Two significant exhibitions are currently running in Taipei, though one faced pandemic-related postponements. Wu Chi-Yu presents 'Atlas of the Closed Worlds' at The Cube Project Space until 11 July, exploring scenario planning methods originally from military intelligence. The installation uses a large wall chart to examine relationships between humanity, environment, and history through frameworks like evolutionary biology and Foster's rule. It incorporates historical facts, science fiction, and quarantine measures to create a narrative where an alien visitor assesses Earth's divided future. Meanwhile, the Asia Art Center launched its new flagship Taipei location with the group exhibition 'Transgression throughout the Volatile World,' scheduled through 18 July. This show spans nearly a century of creativity across four thematic chapters: Diaspora, Artists, Post-War Asia, The Spirit of the East, and Global Contemporary Art. It features works by Li Chen, Foujita Tsuguharu, Chu Teh-Chun, Zao Wou-ki, and Walasse Ting among others. The exhibition positions contemporary art as an active force shaping current moments rather than merely reacting to them. Its opening was delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions in Taipei at the time of the original reporting.
