World Water Day 2022: Italian Museums and Institutions Present Art Events

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

Since 1992, UN member states have promoted water-related activities on March 22, joined by NGOs since 2005. The 2022 theme is 'Groundwater – Making The Invisible Visible'. Italian museums and institutions have created art events to mark the day. At MAXXI Rome, on March 22 from 18:00 to 20:00, the Flumen project by artist and engineer Andrea Conte (Studio Andreco) and Climate Art Project presents the premiere of the video 'Tiberina', documenting the 'Parata Tiberina degli Inizi' performance produced by Romaeuropa Festival in collaboration with Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Accademia Santa Cecilia, and Zètema for Festa di Roma 2020. Flumen explores Rome's rivers (Tevere, Aniene, Parco di Veio) through participatory actions. Also in Rome, at Spazio 900, the event 'AQUAE! World Water Day 2022' is promoted by Università di Roma Foro Italico and Società Italiana di Igiene, featuring a no-stop talk show with authorities, researchers, and students to discuss the UN 2022 Water Report, focusing on groundwater. The event targets youth and includes distribution of FairPlay4U notebooks. In Parma, at Palazzo Pigorini, from March 26 to May 8, 2022, the exhibition 'Il filo e il fiume' by photographer Paolo Simonazzi presents 20 large-format shots taken between 2013 and 2021, documenting the Po River and its territories. Curated by Andrea Tinterri and Ilaria Campioli, organized by Associazione Bondeno Cultura (ABC) with Comune di Parma as part of Parma Capitale della Cultura 2020+21.
