World's largest sailing yacht Orient Express Corinthian by architect Maxime d'Angeac sets sail

architecture-design · 2026-04-30

French architect Maxime d'Angeac, known for Hermès and Guerlain boutiques and Orient Express train carriages, designed the world's largest sailing yacht, the Orient Express Corinthian, for Accor Group chairman Sébastien Bazin. The 220m vessel, completed in April 2025 after a 44-month sprint from concept at Monaco Yacht Show in September 2022, carries 110 guests across 54 suites. It features three 100m carbon masts with SolidSail rigid sails by Chantiers de l'Atlantique, enabling wind-powered speeds up to 17 knots, with an LNG backup. Interiors blend early 20th-century ocean liner glamour (inspired by SS Normandie) with futuristic design: decks 4-6 use oak, afromosia, and marble; deck seven's six premium suites (220 sq m each) have curved smoked eucalyptus walls and hidden doors. Lobby pays tribute to art deco lacquerer Jean Dunand with three bas-relief panels by maître d'art Etienne Rayssac. Outdoor spaces include a 14m pool and 17m lap pool with teak-look decking by Boldt. Inaugural voyage departs French Riviera in June, tracing Italian coastline, then Caribbean in October. Sister vessel Orient Express Olympian due April 2027, with potential Asia itineraries.
