World's First Philosophy Museum Seeks Permanent Home in Milan
The world's first Museum of Philosophy, launched six years ago by the University of Milan's Department of Philosophy, has entered a new participatory design phase with the goal of securing a permanent location in Milan. The museum, inspired by modern Science Centers, offers intuitive and playful experiences on topics such as AI and gender, pacifism, disinformation, virtual reality, animal rights, emotions, the ethics of lying, and the relationship between bodies and technologies. It also includes special programs on childhood and prisons. The museum's pathways were presented on February 5 at the university's central headquarters in Via Festa del Perdono and will be reprised from March 2 to 5 as part of Museocity. Rector Marina Brambilla stated that the museum reflects the university's mission to combine research, education, and civic responsibility. Creator Paolo Spinicci sees it as a way to give back to philosophy and join Milan's cultural innovation projects like the BEIC (European Library of Information and Culture). Curator Anna Ichino emphasized the need for a stable home in Milan, supported by city officials including Budget and Property Councillor Emmanuel Conte and Welfare and Health Councillor Lamberto Bertolè. Possible locations include the BEIC or space within Palazzo Sormani.
