World's First Biodesign Gallery Aleor Opens in Brussels
Aleor Craft & Biodesign, the world's first gallery dedicated exclusively to biodesign, has launched in Brussels. Founded by Belgian curator Nathalie Guiot, who previously led the Thalie Foundation for over a decade focusing on ecological art, the gallery aims to bridge the gap between speculative prototypes and collectible design objects. The name Aleor is an acronym for 'Aware, low tech, ethic, open-minded, raw.' Executive director Alexia Venot emphasizes that the gallery also serves as a proof of concept to scale biodesign solutions for industries. Aleor debuted at the Collectible fair in Brussels and is now presenting the installation 'Scale of Life' at Milan Design Week 2025, featuring works by Tony Jouanneau, Marlène Huissoud, and Diana Scherer. The installation is produced in partnership with Mycoworks, a US company that creates Reishi, a mycelium-based material for fashion and furniture. The scenography is by Patrick Laffont Delojo, a longtime collaborator of the late philosopher Bruno Latour. The exhibition is hosted at Fondazione Rodolfo Ferrari, Via Biella 6, running until April 11, 2025.
