World Press Photo Exhibition 2025 Opens at Accademia Albertina in Turin
The World Press Photo Exhibition returns to Turin for its ninth consecutive year, hosted at the Accademia Albertina delle Belle Arti. The 2025 edition features 144 winning photographs selected by an international jury over two months. The exhibition includes the World Press Photo of the Year, awarded to Palestinian photographer Samar Abu Elouf for her image of nine-year-old Mahmoud, who lost his family in a Gaza attack and now lives in Qatar learning to write with his feet. Other photographs document migrants at the US-Mexico border, drought in the Amazon, violence in Haiti, democratic tensions in Kenya, repression in Russia, Kurdish resistance, kolbar routes, Eritrean and Ethiopian refugees, women's struggles, and Maori identity in New Zealand. Joumana El Zein Khoury, executive director of the World Press Photo Foundation, states: “This is not the time to simplify complexity but rather to give it meaning, to recognize the nuances, the multiple points of view, and the depth of global stories.” The exhibition is curated by CIME, directed by Vito Cramarossa, with Accademia Albertina director Salvo Bitonti emphasizing photography as a tool for awareness and responsibility. The World Press Photo Exhibition, founded in 1955, attracts over 3 million visitors annually across more than 60 cities worldwide.
