exhibition · 2026-04-27

Fondazione Sozzani in Milan is hosting the World Press Photo 2021 exhibition, showcasing 140 photographs from the 64th edition of the prestigious photojournalism award. This year, 74,470 images by 4,315 photographers from 130 countries were submitted. Forty-five photographers were awarded across eight categories, including 'Photo of the Year' and 'Story of the Year' in Current Affairs, General News, Spot News, Environment, Long-Term Projects, Nature, Sports, and Portraits. The exhibition marks the 26th consecutive year that Galleria Sozzani presents World Press Photo in Milan, a tradition started in 1994 by Grazia Neri, founder of the historic Italian photo agency. The jury, chaired by NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati of photo.circle in Nepal, evaluated entries online for the first time due to the pandemic. Major winners include Mads Nissen, who won 'Photo of the Year' for 'The First Embrace,' depicting an elderly woman hugging through a plastic curtain during COVID-19, and Italian photographer Antonio Faccilongo, who won 'Story of the Year' for 'Habibi,' documenting a Palestinian woman awaiting her husband after long detention in an Israeli prison. Other Italian winners include Gabriele Galimberti (Portrait – Stories) for 'The Ameriguns' and Lorenzo Tugnoli (Spot News – Stories) for 'Port Explosion in Beirut.' The exhibition runs at Fondazione Sozzani.
