World Press Photo 2017 Exhibition at Forte di Bard
The 60th edition of the World Press Photo exhibition is on display at Forte di Bard in the Aosta Valley, featuring over 140 images and 12 videos by top photojournalists documenting global events from 2016. The annual competition, founded in 1955 by a group of Dutch photographers, has become one of the most prestigious photojournalism awards, with its traveling show seen by four million people yearly. The exhibition includes the 2016 World Press Photo of the Year, "An Assassination in Turkey" by Turkish photographer Burhan Ozbilic, taken on December 19, depicting assassin Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş moments after killing Russian ambassador Andrey Karlov at the Ankara Art Gallery. Jury member Mary F. Calvert described the image as explosive and representative of contemporary hatred, noting it was a difficult but unanimous choice.
