World Architecture Festival 2017: Low-Cost Post-Earthquake Housing Wins Top Prize

During the 2017 World Architecture Festival in Berlin, a housing prototype created by the Chinese University of Hong Kong for an elderly couple in Guangming village, Yunnan, won the title of World Building of the Year. It also took home the New & Old – Completed Buildings award. Turenscape was awarded Landscape of the Year for their work at a 6,500-year-old site in Lixian County, China. The accolade for Small Project of the Year went to Eriksson Furunes, Leandro V. Locsin Partners, and Jago Boase for their Streetlight Tagpuro project in Leyte, Philippines. Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects earned the Best Use of Colour Prize for Fitzroy Crossing Renal Hostel, while Terrence Zhang was named Architectural Photographer of the Year. Vo Trong Nghia Architects won the House – Completed Buildings award for Binh House and the Office – Future Projects award for Viettel offsite studio. Heneghan Peng Architects' Palestinian Museum received the Culture – Completed Building award, and Zaha Hadid Architects' Salerno maritime station was highly commended in Transport.
