World Architecture Festival 2016: Berlin Winners Announced
The World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2016 took place in Berlin from November 16-18, showcasing innovative pneumatic structures and temporary partitions. The event attracted over 2,200 architects and featured both a trade fair and a sector convention. Paul Finch oversaw the scientific program, with logistics managed by Core Communications. The overarching theme was 'Housing for everybody.' Notable awards included: World Building of the Year awarded to the National Museum – Dialogue Centre Przelomy in Poland, designed by Robert Konieczny/KWK Promes; Future Project of the Year for South Melbourne Primary School by Hayball; and Landscape of the Year for Kopupaka Reserve, New Zealand, by Isthmus. Other winners were ZCB Bamboo Pavilion, Black Cant System in Shanghai by Shanwei Weng and Jiadie Yuan, and Casa MM in Spain by OHLAB. Additional accolades went to Wingårdhs Arkitektkontor, Monk Mackenzie Architects + LandLab, and Zaha Hadid Architects. Matt Emmett received the Arcaid Architectural Photography Award. The festival is set to return to Berlin in 2017 from November 15-17.
