Workplace Gallery Co-Founder Paul Moss Dies at 44
Paul Moss, who co-founded Workplace Gallery in Gateshead, passed away in 2019. In 2003, he and Miles Thurlow borrowed an apartment to showcase their artist friends' work ahead of a visit from a selection committee for the London Art Fair, which resulted in them securing a booth. The gallery's initial success led to the establishment of a permanent location in 2005 at Trinity Square shopping centre in Gateshead. As a commercial gallery, it showcased artists like Marcus Coates, Joel Kyack, and Matt Stokes, and participated in numerous art fairs in cities such as New York, Miami, and Tokyo. From 2013 to 2018, it also had a second site in central London. Recently, the duo launched Workplace Foundation to support emerging artists outside London. Thurlow fondly remembered Moss's knack for making friends effortlessly, including with fellow gallerists and unique art collectors. The gallery is now situated in a former post office in Gateshead.
