Wop Art Lugano 2019: Project Space with Photocopies and Independent Spaces
At the 2019 Wop Art fair in Lugano, a new section called Project Space was introduced, managed by curators Lucia Aspesi, Fiammetta Grignoli, Lorenzo Balbi, and Giulia Coletti, with Dario Moalli coordinating. Eleven independent art spaces took part, including Avto from Istanbul and Almanac from London/Turin. Instead of showcasing original artworks, they offered photocopies in the Laser Print Show, which visitors could take home for a 5 Swiss franc donation to the Bambin Gesù Hospital in Rome. This initiative, inspired by the 2018 SPAZI festival in Milan, aimed to promote philanthropy and support new artists, with "Democracy" as the fair’s central theme. Additionally, discussions on independent curating and social media strategies were part of the public program.
