Wong Kar-Wai Designs Restaurant for Prada's Shanghai Space

architecture-design · 2026-04-26

Prada has commissioned filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai to design Mi Shang, a restaurant at its Rong Zhai venue in Shanghai, inspired by his 2000 film "In the Mood for Love." The restaurant, opening March 31, 2025, will serve Italian cuisine with Chinese influences and operate as a café, lunch, dinner, and cocktail bar. This marks Prada's first restaurant project in Asia, following its collaboration with Wes Anderson on Bar Luce in Milan a decade ago. Meanwhile, the Fondazione Prada Shanghai is hosting the exhibition "Mirroring" (until June 15, 2025), curated by Sook-Kyung Lee, featuring 26 works by Michelangelo Pistoletto and Lucio Fontana in dialogue for the first time. The exhibition is supported by the Fondazione Lucio Fontana and Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto. Rong Zhai, a historic residence built in 1918, has been Prada's multidisciplinary cultural venue since 2017.
