Women in Metallurgy: 'Soft Smiths' Exhibition at Oronsko Sculpture Center

The exhibition 'Soft Smiths' at the Oronsko Sculpture Center in Poland, curated by Magdalena Lazar and Michalina Sablik, showcases eleven female artists from Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, France, and Italy who work with metal. The show reappropriates the patriarchal Slavic god Svarog, associated with fire and metallurgy, into a new feminine deity called Svarogi. The exhibition is held mainly in the Orangerie, with some works in the park, and opened with a performance. The Oronsko Sculpture Center, located between Krakow and Warsaw, has been an art hub since the 19th century, home to painter Józef Brandt. Since the 1970s, the Polish government has managed the center, which now includes exhibition spaces, five workshops, a park, artist residencies, and a hotel. It annually organizes workshops for children and visually or hearing-impaired individuals, symposia for emerging artists, and sculpture exhibitions. The park features works by Magdalena Abakanowicz and Joanna Rajkowska, highlighting the first generation of Polish female artists. The exhibition runs until August 24.
